Manuel Zelaya

Jos Manuel Zelaya Rosales is a politician who was President of Honduras fromJanuary 2006 untilJune 2009. He is the eldest son of a wealthy businessman, and inherited his fathers nickname Mel. Before entering politics he was involved in his familys logging and timber businesses.

Zelaya was born the first of four children in Juticalpa, Olancho. Two of his brothers remain alive. Zelayas mother, Ortensia Rosales de Zelaya, has been described as his best campaigner. His family first lived in Copn, then they moved east to Catacamas, Olancho.
